Nottingham Castle Project

The Nottingham Castle project involves the designs of 6 designers work including me on a person in history that lived in the castle. We had to research the 1000 year history of the castle and pick an interesting and powerful character that story fits the theme or Rebellion.

I chose Joan of Navarre, the 'Invisible' queen of England. Her era is the 1400s hundreds to which she was accused of killing the king , her husband Henry the 4th by Necromancy, witch craft. However these clams upon her was given during the time the new King Henry the 5th, her stepson was struggling with money. If this doesn't show how she was used for her wealth and the weakness that is associated with being a woman, who know what does.

The performance has Joan talking as if she was still imprisoned, she leads the audience along a path of her life story on what lead her to become imprisoned. Joan explains her connection with Brittany, France and how she loses her children and sadly has two stillborn with her new Husband King Henry. She then explains how her fathers death still haunts her dreams as he was wasting away and accidentally lit on fire and burnt alive.

Through-out Joan expresses all range of emotions but always results back to her self respect and power that she shines. She is more than any man will ever be. She is a strong women. She is her own power.
