I started working with the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering by helping out on their one night shows and events by acting as the follow spot or general help backstage.

Here shows the 60s music night and Michal Jackson tribute band.

I never had a script to follow so on the night i was on a COM set being told when to spot which was challenging at times when the Jackson show involved a lot of bright lights and fast movement.

I was able to see the set pieces of this play being operated, used, fit up, moved, taken down, which for me was very interesting to see this processes.

I helped set the pre set when I was available which showed me how these huge sets can be moved and what it is like to be a stage crew.

Seeing the set also allowed me to see how they were constructed, what material has been used, what mechanisms have been made, what type of paint effect was created. This has helped me think of how i could create some of my future set designs.

Here is some pictures I captured during the rehearsal which was a week long. The rehearsal was the main part to everyone's roles as it was the first time everyone has gotten together. I was told when to spot, how, the size, the colour in this time and I had to make my own CUE sheet to which I could follow when I was told to GO or for someone else to take my place.

In between shows I was shown how to use dry ice, the flying bar, the lighting and the overall set moving. This helped me see how each role was done and the contribution each role gives to the show.
